## How It Works

1. Download the app free from the App Store at https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id607748201?pt=126909568&ct=smogreport.com&mt=8. No account or sign-up required.
2. Allow location access so the app can find the nearest reference monitor (EPA AirNow in the US, OpenAQ or a national agency elsewhere).
3. Instantly see your local air quality index — on your country's own scale — with forecasts (where available) and health guidance.

## Privacy

The iOS app and the website have different privacy practices.

### iOS App
- Your location is used only to look up the nearest reference monitor, and is sent only to the relevant air-quality service (EPA AirNow in the US, OpenAQ worldwide, or Singapore's NEA) — never to an analytics or advertising service
- No personal data is stored on any external server we operate
- No user accounts or profiles
- All preferences and saved locations are stored locally on device, and removed when the app is deleted
- Since v2.5.1 the app shows a small number of native ads via Google Mobile Ads (AdMob), only at the bottom of the main AQI scroll and further down the About screen — never on watchOS, in widgets, or in Live Activities. To serve them, AdMob may process advertising identifiers, ad-interaction events, and diagnostic data on Google's behalf; this is not linked to your real-world identity and is never combined with your location. You can remove ads permanently with a tip from the in-app Tip Jar.
- Since v2.7 the app also uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics for anonymous, aggregated usage analytics and crash diagnostics; no advertising identifier is used and the data is not linked to your identity. Turn this off anytime in Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage data. Outside the EEA/UK/Switzerland, crash reporting stays on to keep the app stable; inside those regions, both analytics and crash reporting follow your Google UMP consent choice.
- EEA/UK/Swiss users are shown a Google UMP consent form before any ad displays
- We do not sell your personal information to data brokers
- Not directed at children under 13

The app communicates with these third-party services: EPA AirNow (US air-quality data), OpenAQ (worldwide air-quality data), Singapore's NEA via data.gov.sg (Singapore air-quality data), Google Mobile Ads / AdMob and Google UMP (advertising and consent), Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics, since v2.7), and Apple iCloud (a read-only public CloudKit record holding the ad kill-switch and the tip-to-ad-free-days configuration).
